Concussion.

A concussion is a type of mild traumatic brain injury. It happens when a forceful blow to the head or an injury makes the head move back and forth.

Symptoms of a concussion fall into four categories: Physical, emotional/mood, sleep, and cognitive-communication.

SLPs are trained to assess and treat cognitive-communication disorders caused by concussions. Are you experiencing difficulties with any of the following ?

  • Paying attention, especially in a distracting environment.

  • Understanding conversations, instructions, or following along in meetings and lectures.

  • Expressing yourself clearing.

  • Forgetting the word.

  • Problem-solving and decision-making.

  • Remembering conversations or information

  • Dividing your attention between two or more activities.

  • Reading and retaining information from paragraphs and long texts (e.g. articles, books, work materials, textbooks)

  • Formulating ideas and organizing when writing emails, reports, etc.

  • Planning, prioritizing and organizing information.
