Stroke & Brain Injury.

If you or a loved one have been diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease or suffered a stroke, or another type of brain injury, you may have noticed swallowing or communication difficulties, such as:

  • Dysarthria - this occurs when the muscles you use for speech are weak or you have difficulty controlling them. Dysarthria often causes slurred or slow speech that can be difficult to understand.

  • Dysphagia - this refers to a difficulty with swallowing.

  • Apraxia of Speech - this is a speech disorder in which someone has trouble speaking. The knows what they’d like to say but has difficulty getting their lips, jaw, or tongue to move in the proper way to say it.

  • Aphasia - this is an acquired communication disorder that affects a person's ability to speak, understand, read or write or any combination of these.

At Reflection Health, we work closely with clients, caregivers, and families to assess, treat, and foster effective communication.
